CPR personnel and local volunteer firefighters had their hands full Friday, March 7, when they were summoned to the scene of a large fuel oil leak near Malakwa.
Company spokesman Ed Greenberg said about 2,000 gallons were involved and that the oil had leaked from the engine.
“CP environmental experts and qualified environmental contractors were dispatched to the location and immediate clean-up measures were launched,” he said, adding that the fuel was contained to the track area.
“The incident was reported to the Malakwa Fire Department, which attended and assisted in the initial response and CP thanks them for their assistance,” Greenberg told The Revelstoke Current. “As well, all appropriate notifications were made to environmental officials.”
No one was injured during this incident and public safety was not threatened as the leak was contained to the track area. As a precaution, monitoring is taking place, he said.
