RCMP officers are investigating a January 23 incident that sent Merv Krywa to hospital with serious injuries.

The incident occurred at a property in Columbia Park and, while it is still unclear exactly what happened.

“We’re investigating it as a Criminal Code offence,” Staff Sgt. Kurt Grabinsky said Monday, February 17. “We have to determine whether this was an accidental incident or an intentional one.”

Merv Krywa is a relatively well-known and politically active local business man. Stories that have spread through the community about this incident have alleged that he was beaten with a shovel during a dispute with three men.

“No shovel was involved in this incident,” Grabinsky said Monday morning.

He also corrected an error in Monday’s story.

“This happened in a driveway,” Grabinsky said. “There was a discussion just prior to the incident over shoveling snow off a roof.”

Investigators have interviewed three witnesses regarding the incident but Merv Krywa is still in hospital in Kamloops and has yet to be interviewed. Family members could not be reached for comment on Merv’s condition.

If anyone has any knowledge about this incident they should contact the detachment at 250-837-5255 or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
