The perfect winter dog

By David F. Rooney

Well-known photographer Kip Wiley knows how to snag a memorable shot. And he caught the following photos of Ben Parsons and his faithful dog Branson out at Selkirk Lodge last spring “after observing how Branson followed Ben skiing,” he told The Current on Sunday, January 12,

“We chose a suitable feature with a small drop which would not be too intimidating for the dog. Someone had to hold Branson back and out of sight and release the hound at the right time. I photographed Ben first off the drop, turned quickly and caught the dog in hot pursuit of his buddy.”

The result were two great action shots: one of Ben and one of Branson. The photo of Branson was snapped up by Backcountry magazine and was published in their December edition’s 2014 Photo Annual selection.

Noted local photographer Kip Wiley was intrigued, while out a Selkirk Lodge last month, to see how closely Ben Parsons was followed through the snow by his faithful dog, Branson. Here's a photo he caught of Ben going over a short drop...
