Ten local kids on their way to Vancouver for the BC Junior Open Squash Championships

Ten young local athletes kids are on their way to the BC Junior Open Squash Championships at the Jericho Club in Vancouver this weekend.

Kevin Dorrius of the Racquet Den said the competition starts Friday, January 17, at 4 pm and ends around 2 or 3 on Sunday afternoon. The kids are:

  • U11 Girls — Sophie Dorrius and Samantha Brown;
  • U13 Girls — Julia Dorrius and Amelia Brown;
  • U11 Boys — Ryan Howe, Josh Larsen and Austin DesMazes;
  • U15 Boys — Tettey Tetteh and Conner McCabe; and
  • U17 Boys — Gabe Laidlaw.

“This tournament is one of two major junior tournaments hosted by Squash BC (the other is the BC Junior Closed Championship to be held Feb 28, Mar 1 and 2,” Dorrius said, adding that he be feeding updates through the Racquet Den’s Facebook Page. “We have four kids (Sophie, Julia, Ryan and Austin) playing in the main draws with the rest playing the B Divisions.”

He said he would provide results and photos to local news media.
