The Anything Goes art auction at the Visual Arts Centre on Friday, January 31, is one of the must-attend events of every Spirit Festival.

Forty works by talented and inventive local artists are on auction with each work going to the highest bidder. The kicker, though, is that you won’t know who created what unless you recognize their particular style and even then it is not a sure thing.

This is a major fundraiser for the Visual Arts Centre, which plans to use the money for a major landscaping project. (See below)

Anything Goes begins at 7 pm at 320 Wilson, just behind the Days Inn. Admission is $5 and is really well worth it. Have a glass of wine, graze on hors d’oeuvres and bid on some terrific works of art.

Here, to whet your artistic appetite, are images of some of the works that are in the auction:

There's always an air of mystery surrounding the annual Anything Goes art auction. You rarely know the name of the artist whose work you're bidding on — unless you recognize their sty;e — and sometimes you just can't be sure of what's what... like this electronic work of art. David F. Rooney photo

Here's something you don't see every day: A kind of haunted cribbage board. It looks like it might have been owned by the Addams Family. The artist who created it told me he was having fun when he made it. The game board comes with cards and pieces, which can all be kept in a built-in container underneath the board. David F.
