A Mini Dip turned into a mega prize for Revelstoke resident Peter Mueller.

The 68-year-old is taking home the entire Lotto 6/49 prize after matching all six numbers on the October 30, 2013 draw to win the $20,223,182.30 jackpot.

The winning ticket was purchased earlier in the week at the Malones Confectionery in Revelstoke.

“I have always hoped to win but never thought it would happen to me,” he said. “I have seen people win on the news before though, so I knew it was possible.”

Mueller checked his ticket while stopping in Vernon for an oil change. “I heard on the radio during my drive that there was a winning ticket purchased in Revelstoke. The whole drive I wondered if it was me, so I went straight to Village Green to find out. The clerk thought I was joking until she had seen the numbers for herself!” Mueller laughed. “She validated the ticket and confirmed the win before she could believe her eyes.”

The recently retired Mueller plans to consult a financial adviser before deciding how to spend his big prize. However, a trip to Mexico to enjoy his hobbies of golfing and swimming is at the top of his list. “I’ve dreamed before about winning the lottery and now my dreams have become a reality,” he said, beaming.

The last British Columbia Lotto 6/49 jackpot winner was in August 2013. Mueller is the first in the province to win since the new Lotto 6/49 was launched in September, featuring a new guaranteed $1 million prize to be won with every draw, as well as larger starting jackpots, new free plays and better overall odds.

Lotto 6/49 is a nationwide lottery game drawn on Wednesdays and Saturdays after 6 p.m. (PT). Players can purchase tickets at any lottery retailer or at PlayNow.com.
