Here’s something that we’re certain won’t surprise a single person in Revelstoke: the Trans-Canada sections through Glacier National Park, the city and Highway 31 have been identified as being among the worst roadways in BC.
“From April29 to May 27, 2013, motorists, pedestrians and cyclists throughout the province identified 581 separate stretches of road in B.C. that they consider unsafe, heavily congested or in desperate need of repair,” Mark Donnelly, president and COO of the BCAA Road Safety Foundation, told mayor Raven in a letter.

The City issued seven new business licenses in October, bringing the number of active licenses to 904, up from 897 in September.
The new licenses were issued to: Bette’s Underthings & Clothing; Warehouse One — The Jean Store; Revelstoke Powder Legends Inc.; Blue Collar Massage; Direct Delivery Revelstoke; Kevin Frances Contracting; and M&M Plumbing.
At this same time last year there were 907 active business licenses.

The CPR Holiday Train is scheduled to roll into town on December 13 at 3 pm
Since the Holiday Train program began in 1999, it has raised $7.4 million and 3 million pounds of food for local communities in Canada and the US.
Musicians traveling aboard the trains will play more than 150 free concerts from their boxcar stage.
“CP asks that attendees bring a non-perishable food or cash donation, and all donations stay with the food shelf in the community where they’re donated,” the statement said. “Items like infant formula, canned meats, and spaghetti sauce are in particular demand for the millions of North Americans who turn to food banks each month.”
This year’s performers on the Canadian train include: Melanie Doane, Crystal Shawanda, Jim Cuddy, Brothers Dube, Doc Walker and Matt Dusk.
Each Holiday Train consists of 14 brightly decorated rail cars, including a modified boxcar that has been turned into a traveling stage for performers. For the 15th year, CP’s elves have updated the thousands of LED lights that adorn the sides of both trains with new holiday designs.

Speaking of the holidays it is just about time for Christmas bazaars and knock-you-sales. And if you’ve got cash squirreled away to purchase someone the perfect gift, we have a list of some of the upcoming events you’ll want to attend:
- The annual St. Francis Christmas Tea and Bazaar gets underway at the St. Francis Parish Hall on Saturday, November 16, starting at 1 pm;
- The Revelstoke Crime Stoppers’ 5th annual No Host Bazaar is Sunday December 1, from 11 am until 4 pm, at the Community Centre;
- The Hand-Made Parade runs all day on Saturday, November 16, and Sunday, November 17, at the Community Centre;
- Moonlight Madness should be coming up in early December but there is not, for now, any information on when that will take place.
