Revelstoke artist Barbara Maye enjoys a successful show in Nakusp

NAKUSP — Revelstoke artist Barbara Maye (right) chats with Anne Beliveau, owner of this village's Studio Connexion gallery during the opening of Pigments, an exhibition of Barbara's newest paintings and sculptures. These particular works are Release (left), Patience (a sculpture hand-carved from Zimbabwean soapstone) and Stamina. Both Release and Stamina are acrylics on canvas. Barbara lived in Nakusp before moving to Revelstoke a couple of years ago and is well-known in the village's artistic community. Originally from Quebec, Beliveau has lived in Nakusp for 35 years and has reputation for finding and nurturing local artists as well as bringing well-known painters and sculptors to town. Dozens of local art lovers attended the opening and Anne Beliveau said she and Barbara pleased by the number of people who showed up. "After you left we had a couple from England, 2 people from Toronto, 2 from Kamloops and one from Winnipeg," told me in an e-mail on Saturday morning. "Art lovers are amazed by Barbara’s colourful paintings and her sculptures. Her 4th exhibition at Studio Connexion and she still is pushing boundaries." It's glorious to see that fine art is celebrated everywhere in our region. If you plan on being in Nakusp over the next two weeks you'll be able to view Barbara's show until october 12. Studio Connexion is located at 203 Fifth Avenue NW and is open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 11 am until 4 pm.
