MONSTER tomatoes

Gardening is clearly in Teresa Meloro's blood. For decades the garden she and her late husband Domenic tended was legendary for its fertility. Every year, their backyard vegetable plot on First Street West yielded a bumper crop of Roma tomatoes just in time to be transformed into a savoury sauce. Domenic is gone now, but Teresa continues to tend her vegetables confident that her husband keeps an eye on their fruits and vegetables. Here are two of the monster tomatoes her garden yielded this summer. While they haven't yet been weighed her son, Jim, thinks they're a feast unto themselves and go about 5 lbs. each. David F.
