In Pictures: Day 1 of the Glacier Challenge Slow Pitch Tournament
The 26th annual Glacier Challenge Slow Pitch Tournament Challenge got under way Friday beneath cool-looking clouds. This annual event brings up to a couple of thousand people from across Western Canada and parts of the US for a friendly weekend of bats, balls and barbeques. There was thunder, lightning and periodic heavy downpours on Friday night. However, the weekend forecast calls for isolated and scattered showers with temperatures in the mid-to-high 20s. That, of course, is subject to change. David F. Rooney photo

The weekend always brings some pretty decent bands here. This year Five Alarm Funk kicked off the weekend’s music. On Saturday Maritime Kitchen Party plays at 7 followed by Delhi 2 Dublin at 10:15 pm and, on Sunday, Freeflow will get you moving starting at 9:30 pm. Stoke FM will also be entertaining people with Beer Garden Challenges for great prizes from Revelstoke Mountain Resort, APEX rafting, Glacier House Resort and Revelstoke Golf Club. All concerts are open to the general public with the purchase of a wristband. Oh, yeah — there’s also a 50/50 draw to be drawn at 9 pm on Saturday.
Food-wise you can enjoy Duke’s Dogs, Mom’s Kitchen, Gung Ho Gyozas, Megan’s Smoothie Bike, Fun Hog ice cream and Italian sodas, and Kino’s Mini-Donuts and Chicken Souvlakis.
And of course, there’re lots of great ball games to watch.
Here is a selection of photos from the first day of the Tournament:
