Ten-year-old Aza Deschamps went to the BC Valley Voices Vocal Competition in Abbottsford this past weekend hoping just for a chance to sing publicly.
Well, she got that — and a whole lot more, too! She won second place in her category!
“We are home and I thought I’d update you on Aza and how she made out at the competition,” her mom, Sarah Mickel said in an e-mail to The Current on Sunday. “She wowed us by making the cut from 15 semi-finalists to six finalists, and she ended up coming in second overall (First Runner Up in the 7-12 year category)! For her first year that is amazing!”
Aza’s music teacher, Joanne Stacey, was very pleased at her protege’s performance and success.
“I am really proud of her,” Joanne told The Current. “She did amazing and enjoyed the entire experience with a positive attitude and came away from it learning a lot and making some new friends too. Nice for a 10 year old, I think.”

As First Runner-up, Aza received a trophy and a two-hour consultation with Fair Wend Entertainment Services.
Congratulations, Aza!
