News you can use…

You can expect delays on Victoria Road during the first couple of weeks of July as the City’s Engineering and Public Works Department embarks on its annual patching and paving program.

A statement from the City on Friday said the July 2 – 12 program will slow traffic between Kootenay and Pearson Streets.

“In addition, other areas of the City will be affected throughout the summer as the program is carried out,” the statement said. “The City of Revelstoke would like to thank the residents for their patience while this work takes place.”

You can reach the City of Revelstoke Public Works Department by calling 250-837-2001.

The Revelstoke Theatre Company is rehearsing its award-winning production of  Fuel by Jerod Blake, in preparation for the provincial Mainstage festival in Kamloops on July 8.

An important performance element for cast and crew is an audience to play off, so the theatre company is inviting past and present Theatre Company members and guests to attend the rehearsal as audience members.

Their rehearsal is on Saturday, June 29, at the Performing Arts Centre at 7:30 pm.

This is not a public performance and there is no cost to attend the rehearsal. There may be a few stops and starts.

Standing 58th in the national Canadian Roller Derby standings with 538.9 points the Revelstoke Derailers are set for their second bout on June 29.

The hugely popular team, who beat the Penticton Pistoleras, on May 25, will host the Kill Jills from Calgary on Saturday evening at The Forum at 5 pm.

They’ve also brought in “a special treat that Revelstoke has never seen,” the girls said in an e-mail. “Men’s Derby! The first bout will be us, the Derailers versus the Kill Jills from Calgary! The second will be two of Canada’s premier men’s derby teams, The Reservoir Dogs from Calgary versus the Vancouver Murder!”

The local roller queens’ first bout packed The Forum to capacity and this coming bout could be a sell-out, too.

Tickets are available in advance Escape Within or Society Snow and Skate, both on Mackenzie Avenue between Second and Third Streets.
