This weekend marks the 35th Annual Spring Fling… Can you hear the pipes calling you?

The Revelstoke Highlanders’ Pipe Band is hosting the 35th Annual Spring Fling on Saturday, May 4.

This day-long event was started in Revelstoke by well-known local piper Archie McConnachie and this is the first time it has been back here in several years. The Spring Fling is drawing pipe bands from across BC, Alberta and beyond.

Everything begins at 12:30 pm with a parade of all the participating bands. They will form up on Mackenzie Avenue between First and Second Streets and then march to Queen Elizabeth Park. The competition will take place in the park.

According to the event’s web page, the massed pipe bands will play Scotland the Brave and Rowan Tree, Green Hills and Battles O’er, Marie’s Wedding and Barren Rocks of Aden and Bonnie Dundee and Steamboat.

The entire competition is open to the public. In case of inclement weather the competition will be held in an alternate venue.

On Saturday evening there will be a dinner and dance at the Community Centre starting at 5 pm with live music provided by the Maritime Kitchen Band, which is well known for its down-East music. Dinner-dance tickets are $30 The Ceilidh is $5. Tickets are available from the Community Centre or any Revelstoke band member.
