Theatre Company’s Fuel was a hot winner

The Revelstoke Theatre Company’s production of Fuel has won the Best Production Award at the ” Wins Best Production at the 2013 Kootenay Zone Festival in Nakusp last weekend.

That’s a pretty good place to start from when the company takes this one-act play to the Theatre BC 2013 Mainstage show in Kamloops this summer.

Success is nothing new to this very active acting troupe and they have a fine lineup of plays for the 2013-2014 theatre season.

Their next presentation is Dear Santa by Norm Foster. Directed by Lyn Kaulback this play tells the story of what happens to the jolly old elf as he tries to  fulfill a child’s special Christmas wish while his staff attempts to overcome  a supply shortage at the North Pole. Foster’s plays are usually quite funny and this is being promoted as “a laugh-filled holiday play  innocent enough for the youngest boy or girl, and entertaining enough for adults.” It is a play in two acts and has a cast of four males, two females, plus assorted elves and a  choir.

The next play, Bert Royal’s “unauthorized parody,” Dog Sees God — Confessions of a teenaged Blockhead, will be staged in February and March 2014. It imagines characters from the popular Peanuts comic strip as teenagers. Drug use, suicide, eating disorders, teen violence, rebellion, sexual relations and identity are among the issues covered in this drama. All collide and careen toward an ending that is both haunting and hopeful. Directed by Darren McKay and Martin Ralph, this two-act play requires a cast of four males and four females.

Then, in April and May, Anita Hallewas will direct The Chairs by Romanian playwright Eugene Ionescu. This is a tragic farce about two eccentric old people, isolated in a circular building surrounded by water, who pass their empty days remembering a past that shimmers in uncertainty and enacting a present that is populated by imaginary people. This is a one-act play and requires one male and one female actor.
