Stickin’ it to big bad Monsanto

By David F. Rooney

There weren’t thousands of protestors in downtown Revelstoke on Saturday — barely 100, in fact.

And while now one at Monsanto’s Canadian headquarters in Winnipeg paid any attention to our little demo but they could probably not ignore the fact that there were protests in 436 other cities world-wide.

The protests were held to denounce Monsanto’s attempts to corner seed stock markets and promote public acceptance of genetically modified organisms. Click here to read more about Monsanto.

The demonstrations were indicative of the unwillingness of right-thinking men and women to acquiesce to the company and its cozy relations with governments across the planet.

There is a petition you can sign if you agree with the demonstrators. Copies can be found at Beniot’s Wine Bar, the Natural Goodness food store, Sangha Bean and Society Snow and Skate. Gilberds said he would post a copy of his speech on his Facebook page.

Here are some photos from Saturday’s demonstrations:

And of course everyone assembled for what is fast becoming a post-demo tradition: a photo of everyone at the gazebo. Revelstoke was just one small cog in a world-wide protest against Monsanto. David F. Rooney photo
