Lock up your vehicles, folks!

Auxiliary Constables Karen and Shane Volpatti talk with Shawn Filipchuk on Douglas Street about the Revelstoke detachment's new Vehicle Inventory and Security Examination (VISE) Program. Auxiliary constables and volunteers are going around Revelstoke on Friday and Saturday checking for unlocked vehicles and visible valuables. "This effort is to combat the growing problem of thefts from motor vehicles known locally as Car Hopping," said Const. Gary McLaughlin. There were about 10 thefts from unlocked vehicles last week and unless residents start locking their cars and trucks they shouldn't be too surprised if they get ripped off. And valuable items are not the only things stolen. Shawn said one thief took only the owner's manual for her van. Weird, eh? David F. Rooney photo
