A glorious day for the Spring Fling!

The 35th annual Spring Fling got underway in Revelstoke on Saturday afternoon with a marvellous parade of pippers and drummers from nine Highland Pipe Bands from across the province. It was a stirring spectacle — And sound! — for everyone who loves the skirling of the bagpipes. David F. Rooney photo

Pipe bands from across the Interior converged on Revelstoke for Saturday’s Spring Fling  competition. The glorious warm weather was perfect for the outdoor piping competitions that drew at least 200 people to Queen Elizabeth Park to watch bands from Kalamalka, Kamloops, Kelowna, Trail, Nelson, Grand Forks, Kimberley and the Arran Campbel Memorial Youth Band from Vernon compete. As host, Revelstoke’s Highland Pipe Band could not compete. The winning band was the Kalamalka Highland Pipe Band from Vernon

Each band played a medley of songs. And that evening The Revelstoke Highland Pipe Band hosted a dinner at the Community Centre.

Here are a few photos from the day, and videos of the parade and the competition. Despite the fact that I missed the Kamloops pipe band’s competition, I hope you’ll enjoys these video. Enjoy!

There, they took a few minutes to cool off then each band performed publicly. They each played a medley of songs and were graded on their performances. David F. Rooney photo
