A few chuckles at the Sternwheeler’s official opening

Friday saw an official opening of the City's latest piece of public art — The Sternwheeler — which was installed at the Community Centre last autumn. Acting Mayor Linda Nixon and City Councillor Gary Starling posed with Public Art Committee Chairwoman Jackie Pendergast and Sternwheeler creators Rob Buchanan and Daryl Ross (Rudy Magirena Robert Maraun, two of the other men who helped build it could not attend the opening) for an official ribbon cutting. However, as you can see in the right0hand image the group proved to be scissors-challenged. David F. Rooney photo

It took a little nervous laughter and a helping hand Gary before the ribbon was finally cut. The sculpture is popular with young kids and will undoubtedly prove to a popular back ground for wedding photos. David F. Rooney photo

Here is the official plaque about this lovely sculpture. The sculpture was built entirely with funds provided by the Infrastructure Fund — not local taxpayers money. David F. Rooney photo
