A 31-year-old Kelowna man was killed after he went over a cliff near Young’s Peak in Glacier National Park on Monday afternoon.
A statement from the Revelstoke RCMP said Parks Canada safety specialists and the BC Ambulance responded swiftly to the incident, which occurred at about 12:30 pm, however, the skier died before they arrived on the scene. Police are not releasing his name.
“The hazard rating in the alpine is considerable,” said a statement from Cpl. Thomas Blakney. “Revelstoke RCMP would like to remind all backcountry users of the importance of carefully assessing the conditions and terrain and to consult the daily avalanche bulleting (at www.avalanche.ca) before selecting your route of travel. Always travel in a group, ensure you are equipped with appropriate attire, emergency gear and that you know how to use it.
