CMHA program offers a new perspective on living a good life

Would you like to sleep better, wake up with more energy and enjoy better relationships?  Do you want to gain more confidence, get out more and just feel happier than you do today?  A relatively new course, proven effective in other parts of the world, is now being offered in the Shuswap/ Revelstoke area.  Living Life To The Full is an eight-week course that will be offered in Salmon Arm, Enderby, Revelstoke and Scotch Creek.

Based on cognitive behaviour therapy, the course is offered to anyone who simply wants to improve their quality of life.  Developed by a psychiatrist in the United Kingdom, and adopted by the Canadian Mental Health Association- BC Division. Living Life To The Full teaches participants how to deal with feeling fed up, worried, or hopeless; and  assists them in developing new skills to help tackle life’s problems.

The course is delivered in eight 1.5 hourly sessions, that  include colorful and friendly LLTTF booklets and worksheets, as well moderated discussion in which participants share information, ideas and provide mutual support. Research has shown that self-help materials such as Living Life to the Full can be a valuable way of enhancing skills and tackling problems such as distress, anxiety and depression. Trained facilitators use small-group activities to identify and work on improving feelings, moods and behaviors. People from all walks of life can benefit from Living Life to the Full. Parents, employers, employees, retired people, individuals experiencing stress and change in their lives are just some of the groups who have taken the course and found it helpful.

The Living Life to the Full courses will be offered in Enderby, Revelstoke, Salmon Arm and Scotch Creek. The CMHA’s Shuswap /Revelstoke Branch is fortunate to be a recipient of  a Bell Let’s Talk grant to deliver this course at a reduced rate.
