The winners of the Family Friendly Business Award and the Family Friendly Workplace Award were announced by the Revelstoke Early Childhood Development Committee on Monday February 11 – BC’s first Family Day.

The Family Friendly Business Award went to Mackenzie Dental Centre. Their nomination highlighted the welcoming staff for going above and beyond to provide a positive family friendly dental experience.  Specifically, staff were acknowledged as being amazing with children and for their kind and skilled approach to relieving fears and anxiety (for both parents and children).  Assistance with children while a parent is having an appointment was noted by one patient as having a significant impact (including reduced stress).

Parks Canada was the winner of this years’ Family Friendly Workplace Award. The nomination for Parks Canada acknowledged family friendly policies which allow parents to balance work and home life responsibilities.  The nomination noted excellent maternity top up and sick leave for a child as having an impact for employees.  In addition, flexible schedules in some positions and an available volunteer day have allowed some employees to participate in their children’s activities, schools and child care centres.

Nominees for the Family Friendly Business Award included: Mackenzie Dental Centre, Village Idiot, Animal House, La Baguette, Revelstoke Credit Union, Legends-N-Heroes, Pharmasave and Valhalla Pure Outfitters.  The Family Friendly Workplace Award nominees were: Parks Canada, Revelstoke Child Care Society, Revelstoke Credit Union, Valhalla Pure Outfitters and Flowt.
