Our local Army Cadets have a lot going on next month!
This weekend we will be hosting our 2nd Annual Winter Shoe & Shoot Fundraiser on Saturday, March 2, from 1 until 5 pm at Mt Begbie School.
We have chosen to do two physical fitness (promoting endurance) Fundraisers in the cadet-training year. One of the aims of the Cadet movement (across Canada) is to promote physical fitness. The Reserve Members stationed out at the Rogers Pass will be coming down to compete against the cadets in our own version of a winter biathlon. Snow Shoeing and Air Riffle Competition. Cadets and Parents are collecting pledges and donations. The funds raised from this event will be used to purchase new shooting jackets and gear for our Marksmanship Team. Donations, Sponsorships and bottle donations (for our in-house bottle drive) can be dropped off at Mt. Begbie School on event day starting at 1pm and on any Tuesday evenings from 6:00-8:00pm
About the team: Our local Cadet Corps competed in our Zone Shooting Competition on January 26 in Vernon with 13 other teams consisting of Sea, Air, and Army Cadet Corps. We had our best placing to date. We placed 5th overall.
Our team members are: Sgt. Xena Tilden, Sgt. Trevor Gallicano, Mcpl. Darren Gallicano, Mcpl. Shawn Lee and Mcpl. Alex Tilden.
Later this year Mcpl. Darren Gallicano will be attending a Spring Riffle Clinic and is hoping to qualify to carry on to a six-week summer camp at Connaught Summer Training Center outside Ottawa. Cadets are chosen from this 2-year (2 levels over 2 summers) course to compete in Bisley, England, on the Canadian Cadet Shooting Team every summer.
55 select cadets out of 1,600 Cadet musicians are chosen every year to attend the Honour Band at Spring Break every year. This year we have two cadets attending the BC Honor Band. Sgt. Trevor Gallicano and Sgt. Xena Tilden. There will be several free performances being done with the closest being in Vernon on March 21 AT 7:30 pm at the Vernon and District Performing Arts Centre at 3800-33 Street. They’d love it if you came out to see BC’s finest cadet musicians play.
And, finally, the Cadets’ location has changed as of January 1:
2458 Rocky Mountain Cadet Corps is now parading out of Mount Begbie Elementary School on Tuesday evenings from 6 pm until 9 pm. If you have any questions please call 250-837-3372 or send an e-mail to trg.2458Army@cadets.gc.ca.
