How would you do under the pressure of an audience of your parents and peers, with difficult words being thrown at you every minute? Welcome to the world of the Spelling Bee.

Ten brave Grade 4 to 7 contestants spelled their way through words like: extinct, consonant, sculpture, calories, chemical, tolerate, successful, commentary, significant, routine, and the last one- fertilize. Not for the faint of heart, but Trevor Kozek, Sophia Laurence, Nolan Gale, Colby Johnson, Carlos Serrouya, Courtney Atkinson, Nicolas Sakiyama, Juliana Carter, Jonah Laurence, and Jake Coeffin survived the ordeal.

First place went to Nolan Gale, Second to Colby Johnson, third to Sophia Laurence, and fourth to Trevor Kovek. These top four will face their rivals from Columbia Park and Arrow Heights on February 26 at BVE for the district-wide spelling bee final.
