Mayor David Raven discusses Begbie Falls logging, the City’s 2013 budget and other issues with Revelstoke Current Publisher David Rooney on the periodic In Conversation program on RCTV’s Channel 6.

The 31-minute discussion is being aired on Friday at 7 pm, Saturday at noon, Sunday at 2 pm and on Monday at 5 pm. In Conversation is a program that discusses public affairs with public figures.

One in three women will be beaten, raped or sexually abused in their lifetimes. If that statistic staggers you then you may want to join other Revelstokians for the One Billion Rising Campaign that is being staged around the world on St. Valentine’s Day.

“On February 14…  the Revelstoke Women’s Shelter Society & Revelstoke Community Response Networkwill join activists, writers, thinkers, celebrities, and women and men across the world as we express our outrage, demand change, strike, dance, and RISE in defiance of the injustices women suffer, demanding an end at last to violence against women,” the groups said in a statement released Friday.

“The Revelstoke V-Day event will take place at the Revelstoke Performance Centre, located at Revelstoke Secondary School from 6:30 pm to 10 pm and will be an evening of celebration and reflection that will include, speakers, art, music, dancing, stories, and monologues.”

An open-house evening is scheduled for Thursday, January 17, at the Community Centre from 6:30 pm – 9:30 pm. Anyone who would like learn more or to participate in this exciting event is encouraged to attend. No previous experience or skills are required.

There are four new businesses in town. Eclipse Veterinary Services offers housecalls for ailing pets, Flower of Life Tattoo and Piercing will help you decorate your body, Caponero Construction offers carpentry finshing services and 8372077 Canada is a construction company.

They bring the total number of business licenses issued in Revelstoke by the end of 2012 to 899, down from 908 in 2011.

Upcoming AGMs this month include one for the Illecillewaet Greenbelt Society and one for the Bygone Era Entertainment Society.

The Greenbelt AGM is on January 14 at 7 pm at the Community Centre.

The BEES AGM is on January 28 at 6:30 pm at the Nickelodeon Museum at 111 First Street West.
