Kids’ Avalanche Awareness posters are heart-winning pieces of art

The Canadian Avalanche Centre (CAC) has just completed the annual Avalanche Awareness elementary school poster contest. This poster contest helps solidify in a fun way winter safety information the students have learned.

“We were inundated with entries and had a great time looking thought them, said the CAC’s Youth Education Coordinator Bridget Daughney. “The posters were put up at RMR over the weekend where the general public perused and enjoyed them. This is a great effect of the posters. Who could avoid looking at children’s artwork? No one really, so the posters teach and educate the public as they look them over.”

She said the students were given an avalanche awareness presentation in November and December 2012.

“Where some students’ first questions to me were: ‘Are we doing the poster contest again this year?.’”

The judging was done by the CAC staff on Jan 21, 2013.

Prizes will be handed out to students at school assemblies over the next weeks. In the meantime the posters will be displayed in the CAC’s front window.

In the meantime you can see the winning first- and second-place posters (there were no third-place winners) here:
