Red Cross Health Equipment Loans Programs seeks volunteers

The Canadian Red Cross is actively recruiting volunteers to start up their new office location at the Revelstoke Community Learning Center in February. The current location at the Big Eddy School will be closing on December 20.

Volunteers will operate the Health Equipment Loan program, serving Revelstoke and area residents. Responsibilities will include helping walk-in clients, responding to telephone inquiries, dispensing and receiving medical equipment, as well as recordkeeping and receiving donations. Volunteers are asked to work at least once a week between 10 am – 2 pm No previous experience is needed and training will be provided.

Interviews will be scheduled for mid-January with training in early February 2013.

Residents needing to borrow equipment during the closure can do so from the Health Equipment Loan location in  Salmon Arm – 150-2960 Okanagan Avenue 250-832-6553 or the Golden & District Hospital at 835 – 9th Avenue 250-344-5271 (ext 3029).

The Canadian Red Cross Health Equipment Loan program is a volunteer-driven, community-based program that provides free, short-term loans of essential medical equipment that allows people to safely recover at home. Clients are referred by health care practitioners who prescribe the appropriate equipment to support client care at home.

Lending a hand is an enriching experience for both the volunteer and for the people being helped. Be a part of one of the world’s leading humanitarian organizations through which people voluntarily demonstrate their caring for others in need.
