When you work in the news business you rely heavily on people to let you know what’s going on and so I was very pleased when Jackie Morris e-mailed me the following little titbit: “I just found out that the whole of Revelstoke is on Google Maps Street View… fun!! Maybe you would like to put a note about that in The Current.”
I’m quite happy to do that — not just because its’s fun but because Brydon Roe and couple of other people kept calling me this autumn to say they had seen the Google Street View Car making its way around town. I never managed to catch up with the Street View Car or Googlemobile or whatever it’s called, but here are some links you can click on to see not only what Revelstoke looks like from Google’s perspective but learn more about the entire process.
http://maps.google.ca/intl/ALL_ca/help/maps/streetview/learn/using-street-view.html. To get to Revelstoke click on the satellite option, then click on the negative (-) control on the left-hand side of the map until you see that you are actually looking at the eastern seaboard of the United States. Use your mouse to travel West Northwest across the continent until you get to Revelstoke, then use the controls to get right down to a street view. You should be able to figure it out from there.
Or… as Elmer Olafson told me in an e-mail Monday evening there is an easier way to find your hour. Go to http://showmystreet.com and type in your address. Be sure to include thane name of our city. (Many thanks, Elmer!)
