The Revelstoke Caribou Rearing in the Wild (RCRW) that is planning to capture pregnant caribou cows and guard them until they deliver their calves is hoping for a major grant from Shell Canada.
But they can’t win it unless we all help them. And, no, this doesn’t mean we have to start fuelling up at the Shell station. The giant oil company describes its new program this way:
“Shell’s FuellingChange is a new and exciting program from Shell Canada. Supporting environmental projects and organizations selected by voters, Shell will grant a total of $2 million annually to projects that improve and restore Canada’s environment.
“FuellingChange empowers Canadians to make a difference by supporting projects that matter most. Vote for your favourite projects from three areas – Land, Air and Water. The projects with the most votes at the end of each cycle will receive grants in the amounts of $25,000, $50,000 and $100,000.”
The RCRW program is now in second place for one of the $100,000 grants and needs votes to win.
You’ll have to register at Shell’s FuellingChange website in order to vote, but that’s a tiny inconvenience if it results in enough votes for RCRW to win the big money. The winning programs will be announced in the spring.
You can help save the mountain caribou.
