Local RCMP, BC Ambulance Service and Revelstoke Fire and Rescue Service personnel responded to a fatal two-vehicle collision on Thursday west of the Enchanted Forest approximately 35 kilometers west of town on the Trans-Canada Highway.
A statement from Sgt. Mike Pears of the Trans-Canada East Traffic Services Unit said a small car with one occupant and a commercial tractor-trailer unit with one occupant collided at about 5:57 pm resulting in the death of the small car driver. The driver of the commercial tractor trailer unit was not injured.
Both vehicles caught on fire as a result of the collision and were totally burned. The impact of the collision was so severe that the driver appeared to die immediately.
This incident is being investigated by a collision analyst and members of the unit based in Revelstoke.
“It is too early to determine the cause of this collision and the RCMP are requesting the public’s assistance in locating anyone who may have witnessed this horrific crash to come forward and contact the Trans Canada East Traffic Services Unit at the Revelstoke Detachment, 250-837-5255,” Pears said. “There was fog in the area at the time of the collision, it is not known if that is a factor in this collision at this time.
“The RCMP will be working with the BC Coroners Service to positively identify the deceased driver of the small car and complete the next of kin notification. The origins and destinations of the occupants of both vehicles involved in the collision is not currently available.”
No further information is available at this time and it is not expected an updated media release will be available until Tuesday November 13, Pears said.
