2013 Spirit Fest will help you beat the mid-winter blahs

By David F. Rooney

Afraid of the mid-winter blahs in February? Don’t be! Spirit Fest 2013 will be sure to put a smile on your face from January 31 until February 10.

Organizers had feared they would have to call it off because funding they had believed would be forthcoming from the Vancouver Foundation evaporated. They now believe they can acquire funding from other sources and are now planning events for the 2013 winter festival.

What’s up? Plenty! While the dates for specific events have not yet been pinned down we can predict there will be another Carousel of Nations, the traditional outhouse races, a Top Bloke Contest and a Top Chick contest, too, a Rail Jam, shinny or street hockey, a performance by didgeridoo master Shane Philip, an Amazing Race scavenger hunt and more, including a possible snow volleyball tourney, pancake breakfast more.

The organizing committee is seeking additional ideas from local residents and groups. If you or your club have an idea for an event, please contact Meghann McIsaac at the Community Centre or send an e-mail to the committee at spiritfestival@hotmail.com.

No reasonable idea will be turned down.
