Try these very cool drinks for hot summer days — they’re even mostly local!

Earlier this week we asked readers to send us their favourite mixed drinks for hot summer days.

Here are two fantastic recipes from Jessica Stuart and Patti and Mas Matsushita for Revy bevvies that are certain to cool you off when it’s scorching outside.

What’s more you can make them using  mostly local ingredients:

Patti Matsushita’s Huckleberry Margarita

The recipe, sent to us by Mas Matsushita (and who now tells us was actually created by his wife Patti) is as follows:
175 ml – Minute Maid Limeade concentrate (thawed)
2 cups of frozen huckleberries
2 cups of ice cubes
1/2 cup of water
1 oz Triple Sec
2 oz Tequila
lime for garnish
Salt for glass rim (Himalayan salt is very good for this, you can get it at Crescendo)
Place limeade, huckleberries and ice into blender. Add small amounts of water at a time and blend until it reaches the consistency you want/like.
This should yield about 3 1/2 cups of slushy mix/ 3 servings.
Add the alcohol and blend.
Rim glass with lime and salt.
Serve with a sprinkle of fresh berries and a slice of lime.
SALUD!

Jessica Stuart’s Vodka Mojito Twist

This is my go-to summer drink! A less sweet version of a mojito and perfectly paired with in-season raspberries!
Ice
1 oz vodka
Few raspberries
Few mint leaves
Sparkling water
Muddle the raspberries and mint leaves together with the vodka and top with sparkling water.
Great idea for the long weekend, David!
