Vandals destroy Railway Museum flag poles, steal flags

Somewhere in town tonight someone has a couple of new flags — a Canadian one and a British Columbian one — that they stole from the Railway Museum after climbing on a fence and destroying two steel flagpoles, presumably in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

This was not the work of bored, hyperactive 12-year-olds but adult or near-adult individuals and their act of vandalism has left Railway Museum Executive Director Jennifer Dunkerson shaking her head.

“We spent $1,200 to buy new flag poles and flags this year to replace the old poles that were too easily damaged,” she said.
