Safety inspections begin for 1,200 homes in Sicamous area

An estimated 1,200 homes were affected by flooding in Sicamous and the surrounding area and so far, says a statement from the Columbia Shuswap Regional District, about 500 properties have been assessed.

Safety teams are currently inspecting properties in the Canoe area and Electoral Area ‘F’ from Scotch Creek to Anglemont.

After inspection, a coloured notice will be posted on all homes and businesses. A green notice means the building has been assessed and no apparent structural or other safety hazards were found.

A yellow notice means the building is considered either suitable for restricted access until issues are resolved, or use may be possible in those parts of the building that have not been damaged. The notice will identify what has been identified, or what remedial work is necessary to repair the unsafe condition.

A red notice means the building is considered unsafe to enter.

Property owners are asked to not remove the notices from their buildings.

If you need more information about a notice that was posted on your home or business, please call the Shuswap Emergency Program at 250-833-3350.
