The snow may be pretty well melted away here in the valley but sledders are still active in parts of the mountains and that means snowmobile thieves are, too.
A statement from the Revelstoke RCMP said three of the expensive machines and the trailer they were in were stolen on Friday from Pine Road.
The three snowmobiles are described as a 2008 Polaris 800cc, a 2009 Polaris 800cc and a 2010 Arctic Cat.
Every year sledders lose their rides to thieves, says Staff Sgt. Jacquie Olsen.
“I would say there were about 14 sleds stolen, a couple of trailers and a few trucks,” she said of this year’s haul by crooks. “Sleds at about an average of $8,000 each equals $112,000, trailers maybe $10,000.”
Almost all of the trucks have been recovered.
