Community Connections Food Event on Sunday

By Leslie Savage
Come on out on Sunday, May 26, from 11 am to 2 pm, for a BBQ in support of the Food Bank.

Community Connections is one of three organizations sponsoring this awareness event. The Protein for People Project (http://www.proteinproject.ca) along with the Shuswap Columbia District Labour Council are partnering with Revelstoke’s Community Connections to further understanding of how our various organizations provide support and resources to our community members.

“Representatives from areas such as housing, advocacy, literacy, employment and health will be there to showcase what Revelstoke has to offer to families and children,” says Patti Larson, of Community Connections.

Two years ago, in September, 2010, Community Connections Food Bank had the opportunity to partner with the same groups to host a day of Celebration and Information for Revelstoke community members.

The Shuswap Columbia District Labour Council is a regional group of local trade unions. Their members connect to bring voice to labour and labour education concerns at a community level.

The Protein for People Project reaches into the community through its partnership with food banks.  Protein is one of the least frequently donated food groups, and the project has been instrumental in securing a huge donation recently of over 81,000 cans of BC wild salmon.

The Revelstoke Rotary Club will be on site with free hamburgers, hot dogs, and refreshments. You can also enjoy musical entertainment and activities for children.
