Chamber of Commerce hires a new executive director

By David F. Rooney

Judy Goodman, a former West Jet sales manager originally from Calgary, has been hired as the Chamber of Comerce’s new executive director, Chamber President Brydon Roe announced Wednesday.

Goodman is a relative newcomer to but brings a lot of experience that Roe says will benefit the Chamber, which he said is excited by her experience.

The Chamber has been drifting a bit since Adelheid Bender left late last year. Bender, herself, had been brought in this past fall to temporarily stabilize things after the departure of John Devitt in August. However, she left abruptly in January.

“It’s been hard on the board,” Roe said.

That should change with Goodman’s hiring on. Mutual acquaintances say she is an intelligent, organized and knowledgeable woman. She certainly won’t be without things to do. It’s budget time, so the Chamber likely will, at some point, be making a presentation to Council about the City’s crushing business taxes. As well, the whole Visitor Centre issue is in limbo and needs to be re-examined. And, there’s the noon-hour Annual General Meeting on April 18 at Isabella’s Ristorante.
