After serving the community for decades, the Fields store is closing its doors forever as its parent, Hudson’s Bay Company, focuses on its more upscale — and more profitable — subsidiaries: The Bay, Lord & Taylor and Home Outfitters.

“The Revelstoke location will close May 31 and we will announce a liquidation period prior to closing, Hudson’s Bay Company spokeswoman Tiffany Bourre said from Brampton, Ontario. “We will provide our associates with comprehensive career transition support. Hudson’s Bay Company would like thank all Fields’ associates for their dedicated service.”

In December the company announced it was closing 26 stores in Ontario by the end of February.

“We will wind down the remaining 141 store locations across the country in phases, with closures complete by the fall 2012, Bourre said. “This is a strategic decision by Hudson’s Bay Company to focus on growing our other banners: The Bay, Lord & Taylor and Home Outfitters.”

Closure of the Revelstoke store will leave a major hole in the strip mall at Boyle Street and First Ave.

Commenting on HBC’s decision to close Fields Chamber of Commerce President Brydon Roe said: “We don’t like to see businesses close down but we are optimistic that the space will eventually be filled because, even though it’s a large space, it’s in a desirable location.”
