RCMP were called on Sunday afternoon at approximately 14:15 pm and advised that there had been an avalanche in the Cranberry Zone south of Revelstoke. The slide broke and buried a member of an Eagle Pass heli-skiing group.
The remaining three members of the group located the 33-year-old Swedish male via a beacon search and dug him out rather quickly. He reportedly suffered a back injury and was subsequently flown to Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops. His current condition is not known at this time.
Local Mounties would like to remind all backcountry users about the importance of travelling in a group, to always ensure that they have appropriate emergency equipment and know how to use it.
