A mother’s thank-you to the community

On behalf of my daughter and myself, I wish to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the entire community of Revelstoke.  The magnitude of our loss cannot be put into words but I have been comforted and my faith strengthened because I have come to know that I am among a very special community of people.  Though nothing will bring our lil Jake back, the enormous outpouring of love, hugs, support, condolence and the beautiful pictures from the kids that we received has been truly breathtaking and has helped lessen the pain.

In expressing your sympathy and condolence to me, each of you said something over and over again. Out of nearly every person’s mouth came the words, “If I can do anything for you, please let me know.”  So here is what I would ask… when you go home, I want you to tell somebody there that you love them and you appreciate them. And then live that out every day. That’s what you can do for me.

I feel so blessed and would like to thank the many, many people who showed their compassion during this difficult loss.  My heart goes out to the Revelstoke Firefighters who helped my son; Dr. Alex Farrugia for always being there for me, Dr. Kim Veale, Dr. Cam Molder and the entire Queen Elizabeth Emergency Room team who aided my son; the emergency transport teams from Revelstoke, Kamloops and Vancouver; the doctors and nurses at Vancouver’s Children Hospital who fought to keep Jake with us; Matthew and Renee Carter and the entire Alliance Church family who provided a wonderful service and reception.  My deepest gratitude to our many local businesses — Steve Hui, Andrew Moore, Dave Bennewith, and Cindy Holdener at Pharmasave for the beautiful funeral service pictures; Andre with Brandon Bowers Funeral Home, Goldie at Paramijit’s Kitchen; the crew at Modern Bakery; the personnel at TD Canada Trust; and Krista at Sangha Bean.  A special thanks to Roy Teto; Barb from Monashee Lodge; Cindy from Mudusa’s Hair; Nel from Mountain Divas Landscaping; Deb from Deb’s Place and all of Jake’s friends at the schools of Mt. Begbie and Columbia Park and a very special heartwarming thanks to all those who contributed to Jake’s Memorial Fund.

To all of you who graciously reached out to us with your thoughts and prayers, those who sent cards of faith, hope and encouragement, those who sent flowers and plants, sent food, and those who visited us to give us the comfort that only good friends can give — I sincerely thank you for your genuine support during our time of grief. We ask that you continue to lift us up in your prayers. We also ask that you remember all others who are mourning the loss of loved ones, continue to pray for them, as we will be doing the same.

We pray that God bless you, grant you peace, and keep you safe.

Thank you with all my heart,

Helen Brum
