One dead in single-vehicle accident on Saturday

A single-vehicle accident on Highway 23 South left an 82-year-old Nakusp woman dead over the weekend, RCMP said Monday.

A statement from local RCMP said the accident occurred at about 5:20 pm on Saturday.

“It was determined that a north-bound Toyota Corolla crossed the center line and entered the south-bound ditch, coming to rest down an embankment,” said a statement issued Monday by police. “The 82 year old female driver from Nakusp, BC, was pronounced dead at the scene.”

Police did not issue an identification of the woman.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation by the Trans-Canada East Traffic Services and a collision reconstructionist, but speed does not appear to be a factor.”
