Obituary Notice – Douglas Wayne Jensen

Douglas Wayne Jensen 1951 - 2001

Doug passed away at home in Revelstoke on Wednesday, September 14th at the age of 60. He died peacefully with his wife and three kids at his side.

Doug was born in Calgary, Alberta, on May 3rd 1951. At the age of five he moved to Vancouver Island. In Central Saanich he made many fond memories growing up on a farm raising chickens and border collies. Upon moving into the City of Victoria he attended Glenlyon School for Boys where he excelled in Science, Math and Athletics. His love for science led to him competing in two national science fairs in Montreal and Winnipeg. He also participated in many extra curricular activities including rugby, soccer, track and sailing. In the mid 70’s Doug met his future wife Nancy at a gathering of a mutual friend. They hit it off instantly and were married a year and a half later in November 1977. Doug’s interest in science continued into his adult years, which led to a tech diploma in electronics and a career with BC Hydro. Through his battle with cancer it was always Doug’s goal to get back to work as he truly enjoyed his job. His employment with BC Hydro spanned thirty-four years and led him around the province working in Vancouver, Port Moody, Kamloops, Hudson’s Hope and finally settling in Revelstoke in 1989 with three kids in tow.

After settling in Revelstoke, Doug’s passion for outdoor sports flourished. He enjoyed skiing, snow shoeing, kayaking, hiking and biking. His love for sports was instilled in his children as they participated in many community sports teams. Doug volunteered many hours coaching hockey, soccer and baseball. A man of many talents Doug had several other hobbies he enjoyed. From a young age he played piano and guitar, which allowed him to play in bands and entertain his family. He also enjoyed creating stain glass art, and building kayaks.

His family will fondly remember him for always putting them first and making them feel special and loved.

Doug was pre-deceased by his mother Olive and is survived by his wife Nancy, son Devin, daughter in law Pam, daughters Shannon and Tamia, father Ken, brother Ken (Sharon), sister Krista (Dennis), many beloved extended family and friends, plus special companions Maggie and Skye.

At Doug’s request there will be no formal service. A small family ceremony will be held at an undetermined date. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation at cholangiocarcinoma.org or the Canadian Cancer Society.
