The Friends are looking for a few good volunteers for their action-packed summer

The friends of Mount Revelstoke & Glacier National Parks have a full schedule of  activities laid on for this summer from the Junior Naturalist Program aimed at kids to trips to Vancouver and an amazing trip on The Empress to Golden.

It sounds great! But… the group needs help from volunteers. If you think you can help out take a look at the activities listed below and get in touch with the Friends ASAP.

Steam Train Ticket Sales

Date: Thursday, June 23 until Saturday, June 25, 2011

Location: Revelstoke, Parks Canada Office

Time: 9:00AM until 5:00PM Intervals of two hours

Description: We are looking for 24 volunteers to help us sell tickets for the Glacier 125 Express on CP Empress Steam Train “2816”.  This is a fundraiser for Children’s Wish Foundation and Friends of Mount Revelstoke and Glacier National Parks.  Volunteers will be answering phones and recording all the information needed to complete the ticket transaction.  Tickets are $250.00 each per passenger on the train.

Glacier 125 Express Train Ride

Date: Friday, July 15, 2011

Location: Revelstoke; Revelstoke Railway Museum – Rogers Pass Discovery Centre –Golden; Golden Chamber of Commerce and on board the train.

Time: 8:30AM – 5:00PM various locations and times

Description:

  • 3 volunteers for the registration at the Revelstoke Railway Museum between 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. PST this will be help set up, register passengers and take down.
  • 3 volunteers for mingling and talking about the Friends of Mount Revelstoke and Glacier on board the train during transportation from Revelstoke to Golden and once again on the bus ride back to Revelstoke between 10:30 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. MST
  • 3 Volunteers for welcoming passengers in Golden and directing them on to the buses for transportation back to Revelstoke at approximately 2:45 p.m. MST
  • 2 Volunteers at the Rogers Pass Discovery Centre welcoming people off the buses and into the centre as well as directing them back on the buses after 30 minute stop at the Rogers Pass Discovery Centre between approximate 3:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.  PST

Canada’s Parks Day – Rogers Pass National Historic Site

Location: Rogers Pass National Historic Site, Rogers Pass Discovery Centre, Glacier National Park

Description:

We are looking for 4 to 6 volunteers to help set up, serve, grill and take down at the FMRG Parks Day BBQ in Rogers Pass.  This annual event happens at the Rogers Pass Discovery Centre.  BBQ is $1.25 for a burger or hot dog and includes condiments and water.   Event it’s self happens between 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. or until the food is gone.

Canada’s Parks Day – Stanley Park, Vancouver

Description:

We are looking for 4 to 6 volunteers to help set up, sell and take down at the FMRG booth in Stanley Park.  The FMRG have been invited by the Coastal BC Field Unit to sell Parks Canada and Glacier 125 Merchandise representing the Mountain Parks with Mount Revelstoke and Glacier Field Unit. Volunteers will have to find your own way of transportation and accommodation in Vancouver.

Rogers Pass Discovery Centre Re-opening – Rogers Pass National Historic Site

FMRG’s Junior Naturalist Program

Date: Every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday throughout July and August

Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour

Date: Thursday, September 15 and Friday, September 16, 2011

Time: 3:30PM – 10:30PM various times

Description:

  • 3 volunteers to help unload the BMFF road worrier at the Roxy theatre on Thursday, September 15 between 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • 3 volunteers for working the door taking tickets as people arrive and help sell tickets if any are left between 6:00 p.m. until 7:15 p.m. on Thursday, September 15 and Friday, September 16, 2011
  • 2 Volunteers for welcoming and passing out programs in the Roxy Theatre on Thursday, September 15 and Friday, September 16, 2011
  • 4 volunteers to help with clean up and load the BMFF Road Worrier Van at the Roxy Theatre Friday, September 16 immediately after the show approximately 10:00 p.m.
