Westside Road could be reopened to commercial traffic only as early as late Friday afternoon, says a situation update issued by the City’s Engineering and Public Works Department on Thursday afternoon.
“Crews have stabilized the slope above the slide and are now working on clearing the debris from Westside Road, it said.
The update said there was “moderate confidence” that Westside Road will reopen to commercial traffic only on Friday.
The department will issue another update on Friday morning.
A landslide (Please click here to see photos of the slide) covered the road with mud, rock and debris Monday evening at about 8:30 pm. Clearing the slide was problematic because of fears another chunk of mountainside was poised to come down. However, by Thursday morning crews had been able to clear the culvert above the slide and relieve some of the pressure above it.
