Very dangerous prank could kill or maim someone

Police are very concerned about an on-going “prank” that has the potential to kill or maim someone.

“This morning at  8 am police received a report that numerous storm drain covers on Airport Way had been removed and thrown down the opening of the drains,” Cpl. Rid Wiebe of the Revelstoke RCMP detachment said Wednesday.

“This has been an ongoing issue for the past few years.  Police are very concerned about these incidents as it is only a matter of time before someone is seriously injured or killed.”

Wiebe said this prank “comes with consequences and it will be treated as a criminal offence,” which could include mischief and criminal negligence.

“If someone was hurt because of these actions a maximum of ten years in jail could be handed down but should the results be a death of a person, life in prison is the maximum penalty,” he said.  “The bottom line is this is a very dangerous prank that needs to stop.”

Police are asking that anyone who information about these crimes to call the detachment at 250-837-5255 or, to remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or online atwww.bccrimestoppers.com.
