Grow, learn, live, give — New tools help promote volunteerism

Do you want to volunteer?  Does your club or organization need volunteers? This week, the Community Futures volunteer committee is launching new tools that will make volunteering in Revelstoke a whole lot easier.

At the Community Centre, a new bulletin board will be the place where groups, clubs or organizations can post their need for volunteers. Just fill out the ‘Volunteers Needed’ form provided at the front desk and staff will post it for you. The case is conveniently located just off the foyer on the way to the dance studio.

As well, you can post your need for volunteers online at the Revelstoke Employment Services Centre (RESC) website. Just go to www.resc.ca, click on ‘volunteer opportunities’, and follow the links. Many thanks go to RESC and the City of Revelstoke Parks, Recreation & Culture department for partnering to make this happen.

On the flip side, if you want to get involved and don’t know where to go – check out both the Community Centre volunteer bulletin board and the RESC website to see what opportunities are waiting for you.

Launching the new tools coincides with National Volunteer Week – April 10 to 16 – a time when volunteerism across the country is being celebrated. Revelstoke has a strong history of volunteerism and volunteers represent one of the strongest threads that tie a community together.  As the community grows, continuing citizen participation in community organizations and events is necessary to keep our town the friendly, happening place we all know and love.
