Advance polls see record numbers of voters

Voters across the country voted in record numbers in the Easter Weekend advance polls, and men and women in Kootenay Columbia were no exceptions. Chief Electoral Officer Marc Mayrand said that according to preliminary figures, 2,056,001 electors voted at the advance polls in this federal general election. This is a 34.5% increase from the 1,528,780 electors who voted in advance in the 40th general election in 2008. Here in Kootenay Columbia, 7,237 people voted in advance polls, like this one at the Community Centre on Good Friday. Kootenay Columbia riding Returning Officer Leanne Jensen said from Cranbrook that Friday and Monday were very busy at Revelstoke's polls, but she could not say how many people voted in the advance polls.
