Kawakubo Restaurant’s Fundraiser for Japan last Sunday raised $21,592 for the Canadian Red Cross’ relief efforts in Japan.
In a quick phone call while on his way to Vernon and then Toronto Wednesday, restaurant co-owner Keith Stevenson said the fundraiser was a huge success from his point of view.
And from the point of view of anyone else, too. Three hundred people attended the event at the Community Centre. Ticket sales accounted for $10,500, so the remaining $10,092 was raised through beverage sales, the silent auction and raffle — not bad for 300 men and women.
Stevenson was to hand over a cheque to Canadian Red Cross officials in Vernon on Wednesday.
