On January 17, 2011, John Wallmark passed away with family and friends by his side after a brief and courageous battle with ALS. John was 70 years of age.
Born in Vancouver, BC, on August 23, 1940, John was raised in Arrowhead and moved to Revelstoke in 1967. Here he and his wife, Carol, raised their three children, Charlene, Duane and Leah, before moving to Kaslo in 1979.
John’s connection to the logging industry began in 1953 and continued on in to the late 1980s, at which time he began his career with the Department of Highways. John officially retired in 2006, but continued to operate grader seasonally for CJ Logging until this past summer when his symptoms became evident and he was unable to continue. Many of John’s fondest memories and stories were of the adventures and the people he encountered throughout his many years of work.
As well as being a hard worker, John was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather.
John was pre-deceased by his mother Mabel, his father Eric, and his sister Christina. He is survived by his wife Carol ~Nicky~; his three children Charlene (Julian, Lydia), Duane (Vicki, Sarah, Thomas, Willow, Lyleah), Leah (Darin, Mitchell, Hayley, Jaylyn), and his brother Melvin.
At John’s request, there will not be a service. A donation to the ALS Society (www.als.ca), in lieu of flowers, would be greatly appreciated.
