A “grassroots film festival” for Revelstoke

The new year’s Spirit Festival will feature the inauguration of the  first annual Mountain Roots Film Festival, February 11-13.

Sponsored by the Friends of Mount Revelstoke and Glacier, the festival will bring filmmakers from around Canada to showcase their films about mountain culture, adventure and life and will provide local filmmakers of all ages a chance to see their films on the big screen at the Roxy Theatre.

“This truly will be a grass roots film festival for Revelstoke,” says Neills Kristensen, executive director of the Friends.  “The film festival was developed in direct response to requests from locals about having our own film festival in Revelstoke.  The film festival is open for professionals, youth, and novice for any length of film from 5 minutes to feature length of 45 minutes or more.”

Films will be screened at the Roxy Theatre on Saturday and Sunday, February 12 and 13 at 12 noon, 3:30 pm and 7:30 pm with the Awards Gala happening at 7:30 pm on Sunday, February 13. Tickets for the shows will be $10 each and the awards night tickets will cost $15. Weekend passes for all films and including the awards gala will cost $50.

The most up-to-date information can be found online at www.mountainroots.ca There you will find application forms, rules and regulations, volunteer forms along with information on what films will be shown during the times and anything else you need.  The entry deadline is January 15, 2011.
