TCH accident costs an Alberta man his life

A tragic sequence of events on November 25 has cost the life of a 47-year-old Redcliff, Alberta, resident, the Revelstoke RCMP detachment said in a statement Friday.

The man was a passenger in a small west-bound SUV when the driver lost control on snowy roads 1 kilometer west of Revelstoke on the Trans-Canada Highway.  The vehicle hit a rock face, overturned and then came to rest in the middle of the road.  An eastbound tractor trailer unit attempted to avoid the disabled vehicle but was unsuccessful, colliding with the SUV and killing the passenger.

It was snowing at the time and visibility was reduced.  The Trans-Canada East Traffic Services and the BC Coroner Service are continuing the investigation with the assistance of the Integrated Collision Analyst and Reconstruction Services as well as the Revelstoke Forensic Identification Section.

The name of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
